The Academic Support Specialist provides academic instructional support services to students in our Computer Information Science (CIS) program.
A BS degree from an accredited institution in Computer Information Science with special emphasis on object oriented programming and a knowledge of a variety of database management systems, is required. A MS degree in CIS is preferred. A candidate possessing certifications is desirable. Prior experience in tutoring computer information systems students is required.
The position requires extensive tutoring via Zoom or other video conferencing system. The candidate must be willing to work evening & weekend hours. The candidate must build relationship with the students, provide course related mentoring, track student participation in class activities, schedule & conduct tutoring, and record all student interactions using an approved medium. Other administrative tasks such as student advising and the review/update of course materials is also essential. Previous and Current ECPI student graduates preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in CIS from a regionally accredited institution
Three to five years prior work experience and/or coursework in IT or Software/Web Development preferred
Experience supporting distance learning students in higher education or other setting
Experience in a student-centric and hands-on learning environment
Ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of both current practices and emerging trends in distance learning and related technologies
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills
Orientation toward results
