Overview

 

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program Director is responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, overall development, management, supervision, and evaluation of the DMS program. 
 

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and select qualified faculty. 
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the DMS program curriculum. 
  • Conduct regular visits to all clinical affiliates/clinical education centers.
  • Provide evaluation, development and feedback to the program on course materials, current changes in practice, standards of practice, and student accomplishment of course and program outcomes. 
  • Prepare reports necessary for continued approval or accreditation of the program. 
  • Oversee the admission, academic progression and graduation of students.
  • Supervise and evaluate program faculty to include classroom observations.
  • Establish teaching schedules of faculty; fill in for faculty as needed.
  • Evaluate textbooks, reference books and other teaching materials.
  • Orient new faculty to policies and procedures of the University and the DMS department; conduct faculty meetings.
  • Participate in Advisory Board meetings.
  • Provide support in administering the program budget.
  • Maintain and encourage professional development through workshops, conferences and training.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's degree in field and appropriate credentials to teach the concentrations offered; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered ARDMS certification.
  • The equivalent of two years documented full-time clinical experience as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer and/or vascular technologist.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
